The Ego's Chaotic Nature

The ego's chaotic nature also ensures that there will never be a unified theory of the universe that will hold up over time, because the universe isn't really based on the thought of unity - it's based on the thought of separation and division. However, it includes fascination and ingenious patterns that help to give it the illusion of unity.

That's why you shouldn't be impressed by every new discovery or theory about the universe. So what if superstrings can make gravity work at both the Newtonian and subatomic levels? An illusion is still an illusion. We're not saying you shouldn't do research or analysis, if that's what you do. Go for it. Just try to remember that your'e doing it during a pre-programmed dream script.

Truth is Simple, the Ego is Not

The Holy Spirit's Answer is a lot less complicated than the ego's seemingly multiple problems. The Separation from God

The ego believes in the separation from God, and the seeming separation that is being constantly acted out here was a very upsetting thing for you, to say the least. You'll experience thousands of times in your life when things seem to be going good, just fine, and then suddenly something will happen to upset you. It may be something you think is big or small. It doesn't matter. If it's disturbing your peace of mind even in the slightest, it's symbolic of the separation. The Subject of Reincarnation

We should emphasize something about the subject of reincarnation. We talk about it as though it actually happened. Yet just like everything else, it's only a dream. Won't Always Forgive Right Away

Perhaps you don't fully understand that the benefits of true forgiveness are for you. You don't have to - nor will you - always forgive immediately. Occasionally you'll have to forgive something that happened a half an hour ago, or two days ago. That's the way it goes. Nobody's perfect, and  right now there's an epidemic of anger going on in the world, making it even more difficult for you to not respond. Even 2,000 years ago, J was tempted to identify with the body at times, but because he was a master, he forgave and got over it very quickly. The Ego's Trap

Whenever you judge the dream figures and thus make your dream real, you fall right in to the ego's trap - whether you believe that you must atone for sin, or that others must atone for their sins, or that they deserve your condemnation. The Course says, "You cannot dispel guilt by making it real, and then forgiving it. This is the ego's plan, which it offers instead of dispelling it. The ego believes in atonement through attack, being fully committed to the insane notion that attack is salvation." As the Course goes on to say, "...In the ego's teaching, then , there's is no escape from guilt. For attack makes guilt real, and if it is real there is no way to overcome it." ~ The Disappearance of the Universe

You're a Saint

Gary: Sometimes I think I"d have to be a freakin' saint to do all this. I mean, NEVER hold a grievance against anyone? Never judge, condemn, or attack? Never have any bad thoughts without noticing them and forgiving? And NEVER believe my anger is justified? It's impossible, man.

Arten: You ARE a saint, Gary; you just don't know it yet. As far as it being impossible to do the Course, you're wrong. The Course says that miracles are habits. You will experience more and more that the Course is right when it says, "Anger is NEVER justified. Attack has no foundation. It is here escape from fear begins, and will be made complete."

Why are these things important? Because, as the Course also teaches, whether you are attacking others with your own thoughts, or somebody else appears to be attacking you, verbally or physically, "The secret of salvation is but this: That you are doing this unto yourself. No mater what the form of the attack, this still is true. Whoever takes the role of enemy and of attacker, still is this the truth. Whatever seems to be the cause of any pain and suffering you feel, this is still true. For you would not react at all to figures in a dream you knew that you were dreaming. Gonna Take Willpower

Not only do you have tremendous resistance to facing what you think is your awful guilt underneath the surface, but simultaneously, your ego is terrified that to do so successfully, and change your mind about it, would result in losing its identity as a separate individual. People Who Murder

Guilt is just a thought in the mind, and no consequence can really be created by an action in the world. Acts like murder and suicide do recycle the guilt that everyone unconsciously thinks is real, and keeps it going. People who kill others or themselves see death as an escape. Why Fear It?

There's a part of you that knows it's just a dream and there's nothing to fear. That's what your life will be likes someday - when all your secret sins and hidden hates have been forgiven. No matter what you see, or what appears to happen to you or anyone around you, you'll know there's no reason to be afraid. The images in what people call their real lives can be hellish at times. Yet it's all just symbolic of the ego thought system of fear, guilt, and death - and it's not real.
