Sex is a Mental Experience

All experiences, including sex, are mental states - even if the illusion is that they take place in the body.

I remember visiting a church in Boston to hear a lecture by two Buddhist monks who grew up near the border of India and Tibet. After the lecture, people in the audience were given the opportunity to ask questions. Most of them were the nice "spiritual" questions people usually ask. Then one woman had the courage to get up and ask the monks how they could go so long - in one case, thirty years - without having sex. Everyone's Innocent

The ego says others are guilty, because it secretly believes you're guilty. It uses anger and righteous indignation, or even laughing at others, to put distance between you and your guilt. You think only animals and children are innocent, because that's where you've chosen to see your own seemingly lost innocence. The ego has to put the idea of innocence SOMEWHERE. Purpose of the Body

The purpose of the body is to make the illusion seem real. But since the body is part of the illusion, it can hardly be counted on to tell you of the illusion's unreality. It was given form by the same decision to be separate through projection, which is what made the entire illusion in the first place. You wanted the separation so the guilt would be in other bodies and not yours, and thus outside of you and in them. Gary: It occurred to me that I drink because I think I'm guilty, even though I'm not really guilty, and I'm afraid of God, even though my fear shows up as worry about other things.

Arten: Yes, but that doesn't mean that people who don't drink, smoke or use drugs aren't afraid. They just find other ways of dealing with it or denying it. Forgiveness is the only way out for everyone.

The phrase "God Is" must be taken in the light of pure non-dualism. God is, and nothing else is. It's easy enough for people to get the first part of that statement, that God is. It's very difficult to accept the second part, that nothing else is. That's why we cease to speak, because there is nothing else.

The Metaphors of A Course in Miracles
