What is Temptation?

The Course is a Process

The Course is a process. It's that way for everyone, unless you're a spiritual genius who is practically enlightened already. The bad news is that for everyone else, this is a process that takes time and work. It's a lifelong spiritual path. There are numerous rewards along the way, some of them beautiful and quite unexpected. But they happen within a difficult process. In the Manual for Teachers, the Course talks about a period of unsettling, 'And now he must attain a a state that may remain impossible to reach for a long, long time. He must learn to lay all judgment aside, and ask only what he really wants in every circumstance.'

Forgiving Memories

Completely Forgive or Partially Forgive?

J completely forgave the world. His love and forgiveness were total and all-encompassing. He knew that if you partially forgive the world, then you will be partially forgiven, which is to remain divided. But if you completely forgive the world, then you will be completely forgiven.

The End of Pain

As you become accomplished in the application of forgiveness, your pain and your discomfort will lessen and sometimes disappear. Notice I didn’t say that the apparent cause of the pain and discomfort would disappear. It would be theoretically possible for a master to die of cancer, or be murdered like J, and not feel the pain associated with such events. If your pain is gone, and your suffering along with it, then does it really matter if the illusory cause of the pain still appears to be there? ~ The Disappearance of the Universe

Beware of Warning Signs

Any kind of an upset, from a mild discomfort to outright anger, is a warning sign. It tells you that your hidden guilt is rising up from the recesses of your unconscious mind and coming to the surface. Think of that discomfort as the guilt that needs to be released by forgiving the symbol you associate with it.

The ego is trying to get you to see the guilt as being outside of you by projecting the reason for it onto an illusory image. Miracles are All the Same

Your Decisions Are Not Made Here

The important thing to understand is that your decisions are not really made by you here. They were made on a totally different level when you agreed to the ego's plan, and the only way out of the whole can of worms is to return to your right mind and choose the Holy Spirit's alternative interpretation of what you see instead of your ego's interpretation, which keeps you trapped in the script. Be Right or Be Happy?

If you watch carefully, you can see that most of the judgments people have don't really make them happy. In fact, the Course asks at one point, 'Do you prefer that you be right or happy?'

Your Individual Identity is Not You

Forgiving Pain and Suffering

The idea of thinking that God would have to create the world in order to experience duality so He could appreciate and enjoy Himself is the equivalent of the idea that in order to experience and enjoy sex, you would have to also experience getting shot in the gut. No. Pain is the result of the guilt that came from thinking you separated yourself from God, and you don't have to experience pain in order to experience the pleasure of reality. The Universal Application of Forgiveness

Doing forgiveness most of the time isn't enough. Sure, you're better off in many ways, but the only real ticket out of here is through universal application.

If you remember it's really your own secret beliefs you have about yourself in your unconscious mind that you choose to see in others as a way of escaping from them, then you can get that you are the one being freed through your forgiveness. The Murderous Thought System

The Course wants to help people realize what's in their unconscious - so they can get rid of it. Most people, especially nice, spiritual people, don't know about the murderous thought system that runs this universe, or the hatred that's underneath the surface of their mind. Nor do most of them want to know. Most people just want everything to be hunky-dory. Forgiveness Releases the Tension

The illusory universe is a place of tension and release. That's duality.
