It's OK to Say No

You don’t have to give money to every homeless person you see out on the street in order to consider yourself to be a spiritual person. If that feels right for you, then go for it. But it’s best not to do such things out of feelings of guilt. And regardless of whether you give them money or not, the important thing is to be watchful of your mind to make sure that you are not condemning them; you want to see them as they really are – as innocent.

On his audio program, Fearless Love, Gary quotes J in a special message given to the scribe of the Course, Helen Schucman, ‘If you cannot turn down the requests of others, then you have not yet overcome ego centricity.’ So, in other words, don’t do things for people out of guilt. It’s perfectly all right to say no if a request is made of you that doesn’t feel right for you – you won’t go to hell!

Don't Try to Change Others

If you spend your time trying to change the world, or change others in the world, you’re going to find that you’ll be spending a lot of time being upset, angry, and frustrated because you’ll be psychologically attached to things happening a certain way.

And if you seem to get something or someone to change for the better, it doesn’t matter, because as Gary himself point out, "If you solve one problem in the universe of time and space, then what you get is another problem." By changing the way you look at everything, you’re coming from a position of strength, being at cause, rather than a position of weakness, and thus being at the mercy of the effect.

If God Really Created the World...

If God really created the world and the universe of bodies, why the hell would God create parts that are used for both sexual pleasure as well as for disposing of wastes? A Course in Miracles is Not a Movement

A Course in Miracles is not a movement; there are more than enough of those. You don't have to take over the world. It doesn't matter whether the Course is popular or not. J knows what he's doing. Those who are ready for the Course will find it. His Course is unique. It gives an individual a chance to learn that he or she is not an individual, and that they are never alone. It gives you the opportunity to commune with the Holy Spirit and ultimately, God. It accelerates your return to God by helping the Holy Spirit heal.

How Many are Ready to Listen?

The lessons of true forgiveness are not for everyone all at once - they are for those who are ready to receive their individual instruction. From the Gospel, "I shall choose you, one from a thousand and two from ten thousand, and they shall stand as a single one." Of course, J chooses everyone, all the time. But how many are ready to listen?

Be Kind to Yourself

When it comes down to it on this spiritual path, it doesn’t matter how well you can quote from A Course in Miracles or how well you understand it. What really matters is that you start to grow up in the spiritual sense by taking responsibility for your life’s experiences which means you practice true forgiveness. That’s the bottom line; that IS A Course in Miracles! If that is where your mind is at, then I can assure you that you are making spiritual progress regardless of how much or how little of the Course you have delved into.

As Gary’s teachers put it, ‘The truth is an awareness – not a book.’ In addition, if you are working with the Workbook lessons, or just trying to master the forgiveness gig, and you feel you are not making progress or feel guilty about not doing it perfectly, don’t beat yourself up about it. Be kind to yourself. If you could do this all perfectly right off the bat, then you wouldn’t need to do this work in the first place – you’d already be enlightened. And none of us can just skip to the end.

What Passes for Love in this World

Even in joining, there is still separation in this world. To bring this about, the ego made SPECIAL RELATIONSHIPS. With duality, you have special love AND special hate. The Thought of Separation

The ego has set up people and groups against each other for its entire script of the history of the universe - guaranteeing the acting-out of separation in individual relationships in some way. The Universe is Symbolic

The universe you see is symbolic of the one thought that you have separated yourself from God - presented in many forms - and thus you feel secretly terrified and enormously guilty over the separation. 

On this new level of the world of bodies, the thought of separation has been projected, seemingly outside yourself. Now the substitute causes of sin, the projected responsibility for guilt and the many imagined reasons for fear of any kind can be found somewhere outside of you. The Nature of this World

About the nature of this world - and we emphasize the word NATURE of this world rather than the world itself because this dream of a world is not real - J briefly made reference to this world in the Gospel (Pursah's Gospel of Thomas) when he said things such as, "A grapevine has been planted outside of the Father, but since it is not strong, it will be pulled up by its roots and shall pass away." True Nature of this Universe

Try to be honest with yourself when you consider the true nature of this universe and this world. J is very clear about what most people erroneously make out to be some kind of a beautiful, Divine Creation of God, "Here the deathless come to die, the all-encompassing to suffer loss, the timeless to be made the slaves of time. Here does the changeless change; the peace of God, forever given to all living things, give way to chaos. Mondo Idiot

Everything you see, from the time you dream that you're born until the time you dream you die, and anything you dream in between, is all symbolic of the one thought that you have separated yourself from God. Heaven seems to have been completely shattered into an endless number of pieces and replaced by its opposite. Truth Does Not Vacilate

In this world, death makes separation inevitable. It's not a question of if - it's a question of when and how. Bodies cannot really join, although you've certainly tried, but minds CAN join - and they can join forever. The ego doesn't want you to focus on the mind. It wants you to focus on the body as your reality. Happily, the Holy Spirit also has a script, and you can switch over to it anytime you want. The Holy Spirit's script is consistent. Is Your Path Working?

...I had also learned that the REAL test of whether or not one was progressing on their chosen spiritual path had nothing do do with "spiritual experiences." Elusive Happiness

Elusive happiness, or happiness in changing form that shifts with time and place, is an illusion that has no meaning. Happiness must be constant, because it is attained by giving up the wish for the INconstant. Joy cannot be perceived except through constant vision.

The Holy Spirit's Script

Whatever appears to be causing your pain, whether it's a circumstance or a relationship or both, may or may not disappear when you practice forgiveness. The ego's script doesn't always appear to change when you want it to. But it is possible to end all the suffering that's called for by the ego's script and have peace instead of fear. The Course Has Meaning Where it Meets You

There are some people who will play down the importance of understanding what the Course means. They'll quote the first few lessons of the Workbook out of context. They'll say that since the Course is making a metaphysical statement that everything is meaningless, then the Course doesn't mean anything either! Let's be very emphatic about something. The Course certainly DOES have meaning on the level where it meets you, and it is very important for you to understand it - or else it will be useless to you.

That's because the Course is about reinterpreting the world and what you call your life. It's about giving up the meaning that YOU have given the world and switching over to the Holy Spirit's meaning for the world. This is absolutely necessary in order for the Holy Spirit to help you gently awaken from your dream.

Being in Accord with the Holy Spirit

People are not always going to agree on what is in accord with the miracle and the Holy Spirit and what is not in accord with Him and the Course. There will always be some disagreements among followers of spiritualities, and that includes Course students as well. That's what the world does. it divides like a cell under a microscope. It's built into the system, because the ego mind divides like a cell under a microscope, making seemingly separate minds - or what some people call souls. Don't worry about it or resist it. The Miracle Compares

Gary: One thing I find a little uncomfortable is the fact that you keep emphasizing differences and distinctions instead of unity.

Arten: I'm glad you brought that up, because the reason is important. It's because in the final analysis there are only two thought systems, and the Holy Spirit teaches you by contrasting them. Evolution is a Smokescreen

Gary: If everything happened all at once, then doesn't that mean evolution is also an illusion, kind of a smokescreen?

Pursah: Congratulations to the one who knows that. Your generation worships evolution, thinking that you're on the way to creating some kind of new, hot consciousness. You value evolution almost as much as you value energy. What is called evolution was merely the ego separating all at once by seemingly dividing and sub-dividing cells over and over again in order to make bodies and brains that appear to be more complex - thus more impressive. Projection of Your Unconscious Guilt

People may think they’re more enlightened because of their good karma, or that God has smiled upon them, or that they’re just plain better than other people but everyone participates equally in the script and ends up with just as many so-called good lives and bad lives as everyone else. 

How much money or success you get has absolutely nothing to do with how spiritually enlightened you are. There's a danger of thinking you're better than other people if you're doing well, even if your feeling of superiority is a subtle one – but that's just a form of the projection of your unconscious guilt. On the other hand, the people who are having the seemingly less successful lifetimes feel guilty because they’re not doing better! Remember, guilt can be projected onto yourself as well as onto others.
