Fearing God

God did not send the Holy Spirit to rescue you. The Holy Spirit could be said to be your memory of your true home with God, which is the right part of your mind. The ego is the wrong part of your mind. At first people think that the Course its talking to them as a person, because that's what they think they are. But the "you" that the Course is addressing is actually your seemingly separated mind that needs to choose to listen to the right teacher instead of the wrong one.

That's not easy, because you feel terrible, and the ego is going to play on your fears In the experience of consciousness, you think you've lost everything, and the ego is more than happy to make you think you've done something wrong. "You're in for it, man. God's very angry at what you've done." Now, if you've done something wrong, what's that but the idea of sin? And if you've sinned, then that means you're guilty . And if you're guilty, that means that you're gong to be punished. But on this level, you think you're gong to punished by God Himself! That results in the fear of God, which you still have, even though it's unconscious to you.
