Through True Forgiveness

Through true forgiveness, forgiving "both" of us for what we haven't actually done - my mind starts to know it's really innocent. The conflict diminishes as I keep doing it. It doesn't even matter if I appear to be forgiving the same images over and over, because they may look the same, but it's really just more guilt that's being forgiven and released. Forgiveness Ends Punishment

Your forgiveness has made your mind start to suspect you're not guilty, and there will be times you don't punish yourself when you may have otherwise done so. And you won't even know about it!

Explanation of Forgiveness

The simplicity of seeing the universe as a dream, and forgiving the images your body's eyes are apparently showing you, is well summed up in one of the workbook's explanations of forgiveness: Forgiveness recognizes what you thought your brother did to you has not occurred. It does not pardon sins and make them real. It sees there was no sin. Everything is Equally Forgivable

It's just as important to forgive the little things as the apparently big things. Anything that disturbs your peace of mind is disturbing your peace of mind, and that's not the peace of God. You have to be willing to forgive everything equally. That's why the Course says miracles are all the same. Preparing for Heaven

Forgiveness is actually preparing you to re-enter the Kingdom of Heaven! As the Course says, "The ability to accept truth in this world is the perceptual counterpart of creating in the Kingdom. God will do His part if you will do yours, and His return in exchange for yours is the exchange of knowledge for perception." Rejoining With What You Really Are

The Holy Spirit takes the very device the ego made to protect itself and uses it to undo it. His devices can only be used for good. Don't worry about results that may or may not be seen on the level of form. Be grateful for what forgiveness and the Holy Spirit are doing for you. By forgiving your brothers and sisters, you are rejoining with what you really are. You're telling the world and the bodily images you see that their behavior can't have any effect on you, and if they can't have any effect on you, then they don't really exist separately from you. The Self Acused

Your job is to forgive, not to beg for the agreement of those seemingly separated minds you are forgiving. As another way of looking at this same component of forgiveness, remember this paragraph from the Course, "There is a very simple way to find the door to true forgiveness, and perceive it open wide in welcome. When you feel that you are tempted to accuse someone of sin in any form, do not allow your mind to dwell on what you think he did, for that is self-deception. Ask instead, 'Would I accuse myself of doing this?'"

Instead of accusing yourself, remember that their call for love is your call for love. You should be grateful to them; you need them as much as they need you. Without those images you see and the miracle, you'd never be able to find the way out. These images are symbolic of what's in your unconscious mind and without them, your unconscious guilt would be forever hidden from you - there would be no escape.

No One to Blame

With salvation there is no one out there to blame for your one real problem, of which all the others are symbolic. The cause which is the decision to believe in the separation from God, and the solution, which is the principle of the Atonement, are both in your mind - where you now have the power to choose the Holy Spirit's Answer. ~ The Disappearance of the Universe

Fringe Benefit

Home is Unchangeable Spirit

The ego, or wrong mind, makes everything that appears to happen on the level of form. Spirit makes nothing happen on the level of form, which is why you shouldn't spiritualize events or objects in the universe.  The right mind gives the Holy Spirit's interpretation of the level of form, leading you - and by you we man that observatory part of the mind that has identified with and thus bound itself to the ego - back home. The Holy Instant

The holy instant is simply that instant when you choose the Holy Spirit as your Teacher instead of the ego. This happens anytime you choose forgiveness, thus acting in both you and your forgivee's best interest, which are really the same, even though on the level of form it may appear that you have separate interests. Your common self-interest is to return to Heaven. Of course the forgiveness is really you; it just doesn't look that way. Getting Rid of Unconscious Guilt

The ego has tricked you into thinking you're getting rid of your unconscious guilt when you project it onto others by making them wrong, or condemning them or blaming certain circumstances for your problems or the world's problems, or whatever. Instead, what this really does is cause you to hang on to your unconscious guilt forever. Your Problems Aren't the Problem

The ego tries to convince you that your problems are the problem, but the Holy Spirit knows it's the well-hidden, unconscious guilt that makes you need to dream a world of separation in the first place that 's the problem. Of course, the world doesn't think that. The world doesn't even know about it! Nobody Out There to Judge You

All you have to do is remember there's not anybody out there to judge you, and what you really are can't be affected by what the world thinks. As the Course tells you, "You cannot be hurt, and do not want to show your brother anything except your wholeness. Show him that he cannot hurt you and hold nothing against him, or you hold it against yourself." The Laws of the Mind

The ego devises clever reasons why you should continue to listen to its selfish counsel, but the Holy Spirit is certain that at some point you'll turn to Him, and ultimately go home with Him  as the law of forgiveness and the laws of the mind dictate. There is No World!

The ego would be ecstatic if you continued to believe there is a world out three that existed before your life began, and will go on without you after your body dies. The Holy Spirit's response, as outrageous as it may see to your ego, is this - as quoted from the Course:

There is no world! This is the central thought the course attempts to teach. Not everyone is ready to accept it, and each one must go as far as he can let himself be led along the road to truth. He will return and go still farther, or perhaps step back a while and then return again.

But healing is the gift of those who are prepared to learn there is no world, and can accept the lesson now. Their readiness will bring the lesson to them in some form which they can understand and recognize. Some see it suddenly on point of death, and rise to teach it. Others find it in experience that is not of this world, which shows them that the world does not exist because what they behold must be the truth, and yet it clearly contradicts the world.

It Never Happened

There is No Loss in Reality

The ego says you've suffered a terrible loss, and loss is now a part of what you call life. The Holy Spirit says there is no loss in reality, and that God's child cannot lose. The Course says, "Forgive all thoughts which would oppose the truth of your completion, unity, and peace. You cannot lose the gifts your Father gave." The Ego Wants Complexity

The ego wants and believes in complexity. The truth of the Holy Spirit is simple - not necessarily easy for you to accept, but simple. The ego says you are different than others. The Holy Spirit says that in reality, everyone is the same - and you must feel that way in order to see like Him. For the Course tells you, "The difference between the ego's projection and the Holy Spirit's extension is very simple. The ego projects to exclude, and therefore to deceive. The Holy Spirit extends by recognizing Himself in very mind, and thus perceives them as one. The Ego's Brand of Forgiveness

Remember that when you forgive, you shouldn't fall for the ego's brand of forgiveness - which is the world's ineffective and traditional way of forgiving others. As the Course tells you, "The ego, too, has a plan of forgiveness because you are asking for one, though not of the right teacher. The ego's plan, of course makes no sense and will not work. By following its plan you will merely place yourself in an impossible situation, to which the ego always leads you. The ego's plan is to have you see error clearly first, and then overlook it. Yet how can you overlook what you have made real? By seeing it clearly, you have made it real and cannot overlook it." Be Reverent Only to Spirit

The Holy Spirit's Voice will lead you home. At first, He's like a whisper in your dream. But then, as you keep practicing forgiveness, His Voice gets louder and clearer. He can show up for you in many different ways. One way ins in a book. In our case, He may be an irreverent whisper - but only because that will be helpful in its own way. The Epitome of Complexity

Don't just hide out and study. Interact with people. Experience them and forgive them when you should.  Consider it to be an opportunity. Illusions must be forgiven on the level where they are experienced. That means living a normal life and interacting with society. Remember, the Course wasn't give to a solitary person on a mountain top somewhere. The Course is Not New Age

You think the Course is part of the New Age movement, but it's not. Don't limit it. Yes, it's good that some people are more open-minded and ready for new ideas. Remember the Course is unique because it's J explaining what he really wants to say. Remember that this is his ONLY Course. There are other things that have come out since the Course was published that people have said came from him. Yet they don't really teach the same thing as the Course. I ask you, would J contradict himself? I don't say that to put anybody down. Obviously, we are not angry at people who we disagree with. Only Two Choices

No matter what appears to be happening, you can outmaneuver the ego simply by remembering there are really only two choices, then forgiving the contents of your own ego mind. You were being trained in the art of true forgiveness the second you started hearing these ideas - because from that moment on you were looking at the world differently. The Ego is a Killer

Never forget that the ego is a killer, so it wants you to think God is a killer and fear Him. The very best way to keep itself going is to suck you into reacting to the script so you'll make it real in your mind. The ego wants conflict, and if you react with any negative emotion, that's conflict. It's your judgment that keeps the ego system alive, but your forgiveness will free it. The Need to Escape Your Guilt

The guilt in your unconscious is more terrible and even more acute than what you see and feel on the surface. That was the reason for the whole mis-creation of the universe in the first place. The need to escape your guilt and your terrible, misguided fear of God. Now you have a world of bodies where the contents of your mind, including the thought of separation and your own unconscious guilt, are seen symbolically as being outside of you, in the world and in other people. You get to be the innocent victim of the world rather than the maker of it. Thus the world and other bodies are the cause of your problems, and even if you feel guilty it's still not your fault. Not really. Loss for Words

As you forgive, you may find yourself to be more at a loss for words than you used to be. Don't worry about that. This isn't about looking smart; it's about being healed by the Holy Spirit. Hormones

As the body ages, you tend to be less ruled by our hormones. That's just one of the reasons why people who are a little older tend to do better with A Course in Miracles. In general, they're not quite as obsessed with the body, although health does become a concern - but it's not as driven a concern. It doesn't take much observation to notice that your society is sex crazed. Women Teachers

Marianne is certainly entitled to teach feminism, if that's what she wants. There's nothing wrong with it, but it shouldn't be confused with the Course. The Course doesn't need women teachers to teach other women how to be better women. There are thousands of teachers doing that, and they're welcome to. What the Course needs is women teachers who are willing to teach other women that they are NOT women - because they are not bodies. Fear of Losing Your Individual Identity

Never forget that your fear of losing your individual identity will cause resistance, sometimes serious resistance, to the practice of forgiveness. Sometimes it will prevent you from even wanting to look at the ego, either in the world or in yourself. You're secretly afraid of what's in your unconscious. That's why you have to be vigilant. Synchronicity

Your body, your world, and your universe are all responding simultaneously to the intentions of your mind. That's because there is actually only one thing, or one ego mind, that is the one thought of separation. Playing it out leads to all kinds of fascinating discoveries that serve like a carrot and a stick, to keep you interested. Synchronicity, for example. That's just a symbol of the pseud-oneness that always exists, even in the illusion.
